ANARE Club National President, George Friend, accepting part of the John Russell Collection

A small group of ANARE Club members gathered at John Russell’s place today as this 101-year-old “Antarctic Engineer” will be leaving his family home next week to go into respite care. His daughter, Sue Morgan, has done a magnificent labour of love for two years, caring for John.

While there, John handed over a box of his Antarctic collection comprising photos, papers, technical drawings, journals etc, dating back to 1949 when he first went to Macca. What a collection! What a privilege to have such history kept safe. It was overwhelming.
