JK Davis Gravesite Memorial Dedication
at the Melbourne General Cemetery, Parkville
on Thursday 19 February 2026 commencing at 10.30 am AEDT.
Please note: Registration to attend the event closed on 5 February.
The ANARE Club’s John King Davis Memorial project was adopted by the Club/National Council following advice that his grave at the Melbourne General Cemetery was unmarked.
In view of the significance of Captain Davis’s maritime services to Australia’s exploration and discovery in Antarctica and later as Australia’s long serving Director of Navigation, the Club decided to move to properly establish the grave site in an appropriate manner, and in doing so re-dedicate the grave site on the 142nd Anniversary of his birth on 19 February 2026, the 75th Anniversary year of the foundation of the Club.
The project was funded through generous donations by Club members and a grant from the Australian National Maritime Museum.
Following the ceremony, a short service of remembrance of those expeditioners who lost their lives in the service of ANARE / Australian Antarctic Program to be held at the Mission to Seafarers Chapel, Docklands. A light luncheon will follow for those who registered to attend.

Further advice will be emailed to those members who registered.
