Australia Day Honours 2026

ANARE Club President Rebecca Jeffcoat has sent congratulations on behalf of the Council and Members of the ANARE Club to Dr John Manning PSM, appointed Officer of the Order of Australia (AO).

 

John Manning was awarded the Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for distinguished service to surveying, mapping and geodesy, to research and education, and to international governance roles.

John Manning AO wintered with ANARE at Mawson in 1967.  He was the leader of the National Mapping teams that undertook very successful “deep field” survey and aerial photography programs in the Prince Charles Mountains in 1967/68, 68/69, 70/71, 71/72 and 73/74 and in Enderby Land in 1975/76 and 76/77.  John was a Polar Medal (1969) recipient, and the ANARE Club’s 2019 Phillip Law Medal recipient.

John Manning  AO has been a member of the ANARE Club since 1968.  His contributions to the ANARE Club include:

  • National President, 1974-1975
  • National Secretary, 1976-1977
  • Council Member, 1973-1974
  • Contributor, Club Journal, since 1976
