Open Day – Government House Canberra

Open Day – Government House Canberra

Saturday 16 March 2024

Invitation to members

Governor-Generals are well-known for throwing open the doors to Yarralumla, the official vice-regal residence and the offices that support the GG’s role in Australia. Thousands of visitors always attend when an Open Day is held.

The one on offer in March this year is doubly exciting because the GG, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd), has invited the organisations of which he or Mrs Hurley are patrons to attend and to put on displays of their work and their role in Australian society. It’s a great opportunity to promote the ANARE Club and we have already sprung into action with the ACT Branch agreeing to mount and staff a display.

The current plan is to have a mannequin dressed in contemporary Antarctic outdoor cold weather clothing supplied by the AAD, with maps and handouts, a new teardrop banner and hopefully a replica of one of the Antarctic VWs, Antarctica 1 (see above).

So if you are in the vicinity of the national capital on Saturday 16 March, join the visitors to Government House and say hello to our members in attendance at the display. There will be lots of other displays plus you can do a tour through the buildings and grounds.
