Online Event – DUKWs to LARCs

Our December 2025 ANARE Club Online Zoom Event, reviewing the DUKW through to the LARC era, was presented by our Club Historian and his Larcie Colleagues to the ANARE Club on Monday 1 December, 7:30 pm AEDT (0830 UTC). The DUKWs to LARCs Event Video Recording is now available.
Background
The Silence Calling (Bowden 1997) records that LARCs replaced DUKWs at Macquarie Island and then, in the same summer, are introduced into Antarctica in November 1970, 55 years ago. To celebrate the anniversary our DUKW and LARC operator members have agreed to offer us insights into the vital roles played by these amphibious vehicles and their crews in the establishment and continued support of ANARE activities at our bases.

- Andrew Bottrell MAJGEN (Rtd) Army Det ANARE 89-91, two summers
